HICCUP AND THE PANGOLIN

By the time you have reached this page of the blog you will know about my passion for the creatures of the natural world.
Hiccup knew it too.
From the time I wrote about Chomondley and his circus, he knew how I felt about such things.
Chomondley’s circus was quite without animals, other than the teddy-bears of course.
Sitting down quietly concocting new items to put in the blog I was interrupted by that oft-heard little voice …….
‘Papa’. The little voice began – and we al know it was Hiccup, don’t we?
‘Well Papa, I’ve had a thought’.
‘Oh no, so have I but I bet my thought isn’t like Hiccup’s thought’.
‘Well.’ I said to him, ‘Do tell me what your thought is!’
‘You know how you love animals’ he said. Then began the Hiccup lecture.
‘Well you know how you paid to adopt a pangolin for me from the ‘Born Free Foundation’?
It’s true I did do that. I do like to contribute to saving animals that are needlessly persecuted by we dumb humans; and yes, I did adopt a pangolin in Hiccup’s name.
‘Well’, he continued. ‘Why don’t you write a story about me and my adopted pangolin?’
I gave this a moments thought since Born Free had sent me a soft toy pangolin (thank you very much by the way).
‘That’s all very well Hiccup’ I replied, ‘but my stories are of you with teddy-bears.’
The little head by my side gave a little shake and I knew he had an answer to that too.
‘But what about when the books are complete with me and the teddy bears? Then you could surely fit one in, I am sure you would make up a really exciting adventure with us both.
Please say you’ll do it Papa.’

Insistent little chap isn’t he. I’m a grown (old) man and I still get bossed around by a teddy-bear who fits into the palm of my hand. What does that say about me? More to the point what does that say about Hiccup?

I am sure that, by now, you will have the idea of the books with Hiccup doing his utmost not to get into the misadventures into which he invariably does fall.
Let’s hope Austin Macauley want me to write more.
‘Off you go Hiccup and I will think about it.’ I told him.
