KATY AT KEEPERS’ COTTAGE
Hiccup was delighted with the page we made for Jemima and him on the Jetty.
I know that Hiccup has a soft spot for the lady teddy-bears, so it was no surprise when Jemima suggested they visit Katy, and even more compelling to him was when Jemima told him that Keepers’ Cottage had magic associated with it.
‘You wouldn’t think that little cottage was magical, would you Papa?’ Hiccup announced as he recalled what happened at the cottage at Kimmeridge in Dorset, just a short distance from the jetty on which Hiccup had surprised Jemima the day before.
‘Katy has a baby teddy-bear called Kismet too Papa?
He tells me such things, which I already know of course but Hiccup is a bear who lives for the moment and forgets just how much I do know.
‘K’ is a difficult letter for you, isn’t it Papa?’ Hiccup does at least think about such things, and I have to ask him why ‘K’ is a ‘difficult’ letter.
‘Why is that Hiccup?’ I eventually ask him.
‘Well there aren’t a lot of thing beginning with ‘K’ are there?’
He does have a good point of course and it’s something I do have to struggle with when writing and illustrating the stories.
‘It’s not as hard as ‘X’ though.’ I explain to him.
I can see that has made him think a little; which is good because thinking is good for teddy-bears (and it keeps him quiet too).
‘What will you do for ‘X’ then Papa, I cannot think of anything beginning with ‘X’.’
Thankfully I have that worked out already and I enjoy letting him know that I have the answer, but the readers of the Alphabetabears stories are going to have to wait.
‘Did I enjoy it there?’ Hiccup asked me.
I won’t tell him because it gives too much away . . . but it’s a story I like a lot.
Possibly not Hiccups’ favourite though since he does get wet a little.
