ON A MISSION

Things have been quiet lately.

Hiccup is with me indoors – in fact he is in the kitchen on a semi-permanent basis now.

He is my inspiration as I conjure with the plot for Chomondley. It is one of the books which has been most challenging, since Chomondley has a circus.

Which is all well and good, but I, like many people today, do not see the circus as a place in which to watch wild animals perform for humans; and often kept is appalling conditions. I haven’t dared tell Hiccup that even bears were used in days past in the circus; that would be one step too far.

He and Chomondley will certainly have ‘mis’adventures in the story – or rather it will be Hiccup who does. Chomondley will remain untroubled; but working this through without the animals is proving tricky.

Also as I write I have to think forwards to the time in which Chomondley will have to ensure that Hiccup meets Dreyfus in his own adventures. I have this little thought that the word ‘dream’ begins with the letter ‘D’ and would combine well with Dreyfus to create a psychedelic world.

Which would suit me well enough being a massive fan of psychedelic art and music. The heady days of the 60s could be re-created …….

I will not add anything further but I do see that as I write Hiccup is watching carefully and I suspect

Beginning to worry about the ‘fixes’ I will land him in.

The attached illustration is from the original Alphabetabears book which never did get into production.
